Find a Harry Potter 6 Party or Plan Your Own
Celebrate the Publication of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince"

By Elizabeth Kennedy, About.com

If you and your kids are looking for a Harry Potter 6 party to attend on July 15, 2005 so you can join the celebration of the publication of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," there are some excellent online resources to help you. If you are planning your own Harry Potter 6 party, there are also online resources to help you make your "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" party a success.

Find a Harry Potter 6 Party

Information is available about more than 1600 Harry Potter 6 parties in 30 different countries on PotterParties.com. This includes more than 1350 parties in the United States, close to 200 parties in the UK, and more than 60 parties in Canada. Most of the parties are sponsored by bookstores, a few by libraries. Many of the party listings give detailed information about the parties. Generally, the parties begin sometime between 9:00 and 11:00 p.m. on July 15th and continue until 1:00 a.m. or later on July 16th, the date on which booksellers are allowed to sell copies of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”

There are more than 5,000 Harry Potter parties listed on Scholastic's Harry Potter site. You can search for them by state, then by city. However, the listings only include the names and addresses of the stores holding the parties, and, in some cases, the times a party starts. The listings don't include details about how long each party lasts and planned party activites.

If you are looking for a party at a specific national bookstore chain in the United States, try these resources:

  • Borders will be hosting 500 Midnight Magic parties featuring treats, games, and giveaways. The parties start at 9:00 p.m.
  • Barnes & Noble will be holding Harry Potter 6 parties with contests, crafts, and storytimes at more than 660 of their stores.
If you have a favorite independent bookstore, check its website or give it a call.

Plan Your Own Harry Potter 6 Party

There are lots of online resources to help you plan your party. Here are some I particularly like: Share your comments about the Harry Potter 6 parties you attend, and once you have read "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," share your comments about the book by posting a message on the About Children's Books Forum.
