Today Is Birth Date of Author of The Wonderful Wizard of OzAuthor L. Frank Baum was born on May 15, 1856. His children's book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was published in 1900. Since then, it has become a classic. According to L. Frank Baum, "...[The Wonderful Wizard of Oz ] aspires to being a modernized fairy tale, in which the wonderment and joy are retained and the heart-aches and nightmares are left out." The book is still full of hair raising adventures, but it is not as violent as the original Grimm's fairy tales. Have you and your children read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz or any of Baum's other Oz books? What did you think of them? Click on "comments" below and share your opinions.
