Cynthia Rylant has written award-winning children's books, including picture books, beginning reader books, and novels for tweens and young teens. Her characters Poppleton, a very large pig; Henry and Mudge, a little boy and his big dog; and Mr. Putter and Tabby, an old man and his old cat, are very popular with 4- to 8-year-olds. Mesmerizing Young Minds Daily

At first, I thought my 7 year old enjoyed the Mr. Putter series because it reminded him of his "Paw Paw." Then he kept bringing home books by the same author, the High Rise Private Eyes and Henry & Mudge. After realizing the books were written by the same author, my 7 year old made the comment, "Wow, Mom. This author really knows what children like. She must have a hundred of them (children)." After reading how many books she has blessed us with and how many children she has captivated with her stories . . . she does, in fact, have millions of children! Thank you, Ms. Rylant!

We LOVE her books!

My boys (3 and 5) love Cynthia Rylant. The 5 year old loves to read Henry and Mudge while the 3 year old loves to have them read to him. We also love Annie and Snowball, Mr. Putter and Tabby, and Puppy Mudge. These books have such a wonderful combination of the everyday world, humor, and a sense of the ridiculous. We cannot leave the library without getting several Cynthia Rylant books!

Henry and Mudge

I am a second grader at Lakeview Elementary. I love your Henry and Mudge series. I was wondering if you are writing any more books in this series? I hope you do!

Cynthia Rylant ~ Favorite Author

I work at a public library and I try to recommend the author's works to patrons of all ages. I love her Easy Readers, her picture books (The Great Gracie Race is a favorite of mine), Henry & Mudge, Mr. Putter & Tabby, and The Lighthouse series. I haven't had much success with 'God Went To Beauty School' (I think it's the cover) but it is one of my favorite teen picks and I listened to 'A Fine White Dust' and really enjoyed it. I keep looking for Cynthia Rylant's name to appear on WWU Bond Children's Literature Conference as I understand she lives on the West Coast. My co-workers know that she is my all-time favorite children's author (right up there with Theodore Geisel), so they make sure I am aware of any new title they may come across.

God Went to Beauty School

My favorite Cynthia Rylant book (and I have many!) is a slim volume of poetry that shares unconventional, but highly approachable views of God. God gets a dog, buys a couch at Pottery Barn, and went to beauty school because he always loved hands...they were "some of the best things He'd ever done." Great for opening up a dialogue about faith with tweens/teens.

We Love Cynthia Rylant!

For the past few weeks our second grade class has been reading lots of different books written by Cynthia Rylant. We collected many of them from various classrooms around the school. We'd all love it if we could each have our own! We loved so many different books that she has written. We especially love her Henry & Mudge books, Mr. Putter & Tabby books, Her story When I Was Young in the Mountains and November were great books too!! The kids hope Ms. Rylant keeps writing more books for them to read and learn from.

I love Cynthia Rylant books!

I teach third grade, so some of "my kids" are struggling readers. Cynthia Rylant books always fit the bill for books with which those students can be successful. Our school library has purple tape below books for struggling readers (early chapter books) so it is very easy to identify them.
